HEYJA DO

My pure giddiness of rediscovering DEAR Rivington and their incredible selection of vintage and fashion was eclipsed by the discovery of Heyja Do Pottery tucked away on the lower level of the store.

Rich textures and earthy colorations, unexpected forms, perfect for the practice of Ikebana. Displaying blooms or food in a beautiful and poetic way. They make you stop and look and feel.

Since then, I have placed her ceramic vessels in almost every project I do. I was moved by them.

As a fellow fashion design person who moved into the world of home design, I wanted to know what inspires her and her creative expression.

What inspired you to start making ceramics?  When did that happen?

I have been making pottery for last 7years. Started as just hobby that can calm me and rest and now became professional potter.

Does your background in fashion inform your pottery making?  Are there any similarities between your eye for fashion and your eye for pottery?

As i do more work on making pottery, i find more similarities in clothing and pottery, not only the look that can attract people also balance, practicality and more importantly express own aesthetics.

I also believe not only these 2 but also everything we do are connected to each other.

How long did it take you to pick up the skill of making ceramics?

I am still learning every day in my studio when I work. I’m more like exploring in lots of different ways or techniques in my works instead of developing one certain style.

Did you begin making tabletop first? Or vases/vessels first?

I actually started with sculpture piece then into making vessels.

What do you see for the future of Hey Jado Pottery?

I’m sure it’s same for all the artists, for me it would be great more people can see my works and get inspired for their works and life.
